Vitamin F for Friends Like You

10/10/2012 at 1:34 pm
I just received an email from one of my East Sale Friends. It glows with the sentiment we all feel about our WRAAF mates. Enjoy. My husband telephoned a ex RAAF mate from the 1970’s last night. They talked like it was yesterday. Espri de Corp what else…..
Vitamin F for Friends

Vitamin F for Friends

Why do I have a variety of friends who are all so different in character? How can I get along with them all? I think that each one helps to bring out a “different” part of me.

With one of them I am polite. With another I joke.
I sit down and talk about serious matters with one.

With another I laugh a lot.

I listen to one friend’s problems.

Then I listen to another one’s advice for me.

My friends are like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. When completed, they form a treasure box. A treasure of friends! They’re friends who support me through good days and bad.

Real Age doctors tell us that friends are good for our health. Dr. Oz calls them Vitamin F (for Friends) and counts the benefits of friends as essential to our well being. Research shows that people in strong social circles have less risk of depression and terminal strokes.

If you enjoy Vitamin F constantly you can be up to 30 years younger than your real age. The warmth of friendship stops stress and even in your most intense moments, it decreases the chance of a cardiac arrest or stroke by 50%. I’m so happy that I have a stock of Vitamin F!

In summary, we should value our friends and keep in touch with them. We should try to see the funny side of things and laugh together and pray for each other in the tough moments.

Some of my friends are friends on line.

I know I am part of theirs because their names appear on my computer screen every day and I feel blessed that they care as much for me as I care for them.

If ever you don’t see my name on your screen please remember that it is not because I have forgotten you but because something has happened to me.

I know as we age we can not be online forever, but we are making the best of it while we can. While there is breath in me I will always keep in touch, as often as I can & share as often as I am able

Thank you for being one of my Vitamins!

Update on 2013 Reunion News

04/10/2012 at 12:31 pm

From Brisbane Newsletter Sep 2012

DON’T FORGET – The WA WRAAF Branch is still taking expressions of interest for the 2013 National WRAAF Reunion to be held in Perth WA. The registration form has already been sent out with previous Branch minutes but is still available from our Secretary, Rosemary, and can also be downloaded from the WRAAF website. You need to send a $10 non-refundable registration fee with the form which can be paid by direct debit/EFT. There is now an email address for information: wraaf2013@hotmail.com
You can now pay by direct debit/EFT, details as below:

Bank: BankWest BSB No. 306-080
Account No. 418-400-0 Account name: WRAAF Branch

Registrations must be received no later than 31 January 2013. Once you have registered, you will receive updates and further info from the Perth Reunion Committee and a list of those who have registered so far.

Note from WA Newsletter – Hotel rooms seem to be at a premium at all times of the yer in Perth, which of course does affect prices for our reunion but I believe that if you book a package deal with Qantas it works out cheaper as Qantas seem to have rooms held in hotels on a permanent basis. When heading east for a reunion some of us book this way and even at the last moment have been able to get the package. Maybe this is worth looking into.

Motel Units at Bull Creek – As some of you may be aware, there were motel units at Bull Creek but due to new buildings these have been torn down. At this time there are none available but we hope that 4 will be available soon, 2 in the Mirage Apartments and 2 more upstairs in Perry House (one of the older blocks). I will keep you up-to-date on these when they become available. The older motel units were only $55 per night and had 2 single beds but we are unsure as to the new one. These were always a cheap alternative for RAAFA visitors from the east or country.
(Judy Bland, WRAAF WA Secretary)

A Visit to RAAF Aviation Heritage Museum – Brisbane Branch

04/10/2012 at 10:47 am

RAAF Aviation Heritage Museum

On Sunday 8 July about 47 of us – along with some partners – visited the Museum at Amberley which was officially opened on 5 June 2011. It has some aircraft on display, including a WWII Boston, Vietnam-era Caribou and Canberra, Mirage and Sabre fighters, Iroquois and Sioux helicopters, and, of course, an
F-111C and also other smaller artefacts and displays. There is a moving tribute to Pilot Officer Robert Carver and Flying Officer Michael Herbert who for so long were MIA in Vietnam. The Museum is hoping to expand and may one day have a display relating to the WRAAF.

It is open on the second Sunday of every month (9:00am – 3:00pm). Go past the main gates to the Car Park and a shuttle bus runs from there to the Museum. Admission is FREE. It is staffed by knowledgeable and enthusiastic ex-service people and there is a shop that sells souvenirs (but take cash as they don’t do credit cards !!!) The bus from Brisbane meandered around the countryside, stopping at Queens Park in Ipswich for morning tea and cakes. After the visit we all went off to Jets Rugby League Club in North Ipswich for a great lunch. All in all, a good day was had by all.
